Tuesday Ten: Farewell to Summer

I know Fall isn’t technically here according to the calendar, but for me Labor Day weekend signals the end of Summer and the beginning of Fall. I love this time of year, and this transition is my favorite, probably because I just can’t get enough of Summer and Fall!

Honestly, this summer was one for the record books. While I had a lot going on (more on my whole story later), I enjoyed myself in a way I haven’t in a really long time. I spent so much time with my family and friends, and it was so necessary and so good for my soul.

So for today’s Tuesday Ten I’m going to share ten of my favorite summer memories with y’all! And believe me, there are WAY more than ten, but I just wanted to share some of my favs :)

farewell to summer1. When your boyfriend tells you, after an amazing lazy day in the lake, to get ready for dinner, but where we’re going is a surprise, you get ready as fast as you can and sprint to the car! But first you take a selfie. If you ever have the chance, definitely check out the Twisted Rooster! Tim and I are fans for life

2. We go to at least one West Michigan Whitecaps game a year, and I absolutely love them! There’s not a bad seat in the stadium, they have awesome food, and a frozen strawberry daiquiri is always on the menu. Plus, we usually catch a game with fireworks after.

3. Seeing Book of Mormon with my best friend Melissa was a blast. If you’re ever looking to go to a Broadway show PLEASE check out the Wharton Center. I’m biased and obsessed due to working for the Wharton Center Student Marketing Organization and seeing so many shows (Broadway shows, for $25 per ticket) while I was at MSU. Find an MSU student to buy tickets for you. Seriously. It’s just $25 per ticket. And Book of Mormon. Oh lawdy. It was hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. Don’t go if you’re easily offended or easily made uncomfortable by off color jokes (it’s from the creators of South Park), but this is a show I would go see again. And I’d bring Tim. Because he would enjoy it.

4. Fourth of July weekend was the bomb.com yo. Seriously. My biffle Kaitlyn, my baby sister came and brought two new friends to introduce to all of us, SO MUCH delish food. Volleyball, wave running, so many fireworks. It was amazing. And I spent it with some of my absolutely favorite people.

5. Y’all I had the most amazing weekend with these girls. My soul sisters for real. #UABforlife I honestly don’t know what I would have done without these three the past three years. Kaitlyn, Rikki, Steph, if you’re reading this- I hope you know how much I love you.

6. Oh my goodness. The dinners my dad makes. He’s a grillmaster and I loved eating dinner with him and my mom whenever I was home this summer. His fajitas were one of my absolute favorite meals!

7. There is nothing in the world like the feeling of being in Spartan Stadium. Especially for the first game. I get teary eyed. No joke. Sorry not sorry. I love Spartan football, and the atmosphere is out of this world. I’m SO EXCITED for this season! Tim and I are so ready!

8. Cindy came to visit from Arizona! Seriously so much fun. When I talked in my previous post about being blessed because of all the wonderful people Tim has brought into my life? Well Cindy and her incredible family are some of those people. This woman will make you laugh like no other. Also, if you want me to pick you up from the airport whenever I make a pretty cool sign.

9. My baby sister turned 21! Way more on that here, of course, but I’m so proud of her. Twenty one and her senior year of college. Is there a better time? I’ve been there. There really isn’t.

10. Jenna and Richie got married!! Team UAB had the BEST TIME. I really can’t put into words how amazing the people are that UAB brought into my life. But that’s a story for another day : )

I hope you had an absolutely fabulous summer! I’d love to hear about some of your favorite summer memories!

Happy Five Year Anniversary Tim!

I’ll never forget this moment. But there are a whole lot of memories over the past year I won’t forget. Our first trip to California together. This Rose Bowl. Our first trip to Disneyland together. Surviving driving through the Polar Vortex. All the movies and TV shows we watched snuggled up on the couch during those snow storms. The dinners and time out on the lake soaking up the sun. Our first ER trip together (hah!). Starting another season in Spartan Stadium. The late night talks and loads of laughs. Another move across the state. Another 154 miles from your house to mine (which is better than the 1,215 miles from East Lansing to Orlando, or the 1,56s from Trufant to Rome). But mostly, just being with you, being lucky enough to have that time.

I love you for so many reasons. I told you in your card that the space was too small for all the witty, romantic things I wanted to say to you, but here I am with all the space in the world and I’m still having a hard time saying exactly why I love you so much. I love that you make me laugh. That you always believe in me. That you don’t make fun of me when I cry (and it’s ugly. Like Kim K ugly, only I don’t know how to contour so my face looks fat and puffy). I love that you’re so smart. I love you for bringing so many wonderful people into my life. But mostly I just love you because you’re you, and you compliment me in a way I don’t believe anyone else could.

I love you a lottle. To the moon and back. I’m so blessed to have you in my life, and I thank God everyday for it.

Happy five year anniversary Timmy!

Happy Friday! Throw the Confetti!

HAPPY FRIDAY Y’ALL! I’ll be heading up north with three of my best friends tomorrow right after work (!!!) but I thought I’d share this super easy DIY I did last weekend to add to my gallery wall in my room, because who doesn’t love confetti? (FYI the answer is no one)

confetti frame

I had such a great time last month at the #MichiganGirlsSparkle event hosted by Leah of Leah Tackles and Lauren from the Pearls and Pastries Shop and in our fabulous goodie bags was a whole lot of confetti! What to do with it all?

Well, if you’re me, you buy a frame for $1 from a garage sale, spray paint it gold, take a piece of paper, spread glue all over it and sprinkle a ton of confetti and feathers all over! Done! That’s it :)

Have a fantastic weekend! Any fun plans!?

I’ll be back next week with another fun DIY!

Kristina is 21!!

I know, I know, I missed the Tuesday Ten yesterday. With my first week of work last week followed by 12 hours of work Saturday, visitors after that and very little sleep, I took time Monday to relax and gear up for the rest of this week and next, and I’m SO EXCITED to share today’s post!

Guess what y’all!? My baby sister turns the big TWO ONE today! Twenty one years. Holy cow. And now I feel old. (I know, a lot of you just rolled your eyes. I’ll only be 24 in November, but really. Still feeling pretty old.) I’m sitting here writing this and I’ve been writing this post in my head for what seems like days now trying to get out exactly what Kristina means to me and how blessed and happy I am that she’s my sister and I don’t know how it will end up and I’ll probably end up editing this after but here it goes!

Today we’re celebrating this chick

sissy in sydney 1For those of you who don’t know, Kristina spent eight weeks last summer in Australia and New Zealand interning for the Starlight Foundation (which is an amazing organization). She made awesome friends and had an amazing time before she came home, then jetted off to Germany, Holland, and Belgium to play soccer with ONUWS for 10 days. My little world traveler.

And now she can legally do this in America!

She really couldn’t be anymore amazing. Actually that’s a lie. I feel like every time I think that she does something else that blows my mind.

Kristina, the lone senior on the Ohio Northern University Women’s Soccer this year. Four years. Four incredible years of hard work, dedication, endless training, two and three a days, a European trip, countless bus rides and games, trips to the NCAA tournament and more. My sister is AMAZING y’all. And so humble. She’d never tell you any of this herself, so that’s my job. I’ve been Kristina’s cheerleader for as long as I can remember. She started playing soccer when she was five (go Blueberries!) and played for the Quest from U9-U17, mostly with the same core of 9 or 10 girls (I have a lot of official unofficial little sisters out there). She won her first national championship at the age of 10 guest playing with the Michigan Hawks, was invited to tryout for the top teams in the state, helped coach and assist at camps, and was a four year varsity starter in high school. And you know what happened then? She went to college and played for Batman (yes that’s his real name) and in her first year earned numerous honors from the team and the conference, and scored the winning goal in overtime to take the Polar Bears into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

I can’t even list off all her awards. I will tell you last year she was first team All OAC, academic All OAC and earned All Ohio honors as well. And why am I telling you all this? Well because Kristina is too humble to tell you how kick butt awesome she is and if you can’t be told how awesome you are on your birthday, well what’s the point?

Having a sister means having a built in best friend, someone who gets you in a way that no one else does. Kristina has been my best friend our whole lives.  She’s intelligent, beautiful, compassionate, funny, athletic, empathetic, understanding, a girl with wanderlust in her soul and someone who appreciates everyone for who they are and what makes them special. She has the biggest heart, radiates goodness, is a believer in God and all the good He does, and is the kind of friend that would drive to your house at three in the morning if you needed her and stay as long as you needed her. I’ll never get tired of hearing how much we look alike.

I know you don’t really have a lot of memories from times when you were little, but I have a very distinct memory of climbing up into my mom’s hospital bed and helping to hold my little sister and I’ve been watching out for her ever since.

The laughter you bring to my life and the love you share is amazing. Kristina I am so incredibly proud of the woman you are and how hard you’ve worked to get to this point. You are my hero. You always have been. And you always will be. I strive to be more like you and I’m so blessed to call you my sister.

Tuesday Ten: Some Favorite Books

Today’s Tuesday Ten is all about one of my absolute favorite things: BOOKS! I have read hundreds and hundreds, and actually started keeping a list on all the books I’ve read/want to read in fall 2011. I’ve been a bookworm since I was little, library day being my favorite day in elementary school, reading ahead when books were assigned in class. I get giddy and go crazy in bookstores. I spend hours at the library. And bless the Canton Public Library for not limiting the number of books you can check out at once! Without further ado… Ten of my favorite books! (And FYI, no rhyme or reason or genre specifically, just ten I would read over and over again, and most of them I have!)

Book 1 illustration

Gah. I’m giddy again just looking at them all!

1. The Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy by Nora Roberts is one of my favorites and I know it’s technically three books, but since it’s a series I’m just counting it as one :) I love love love happy ever afters! The series starts with The Next Always, followed by The Last Boyfriend and ends with The Perfect Hope. Small town romances. Pittah-pattah (that’s my heart beating with happiness)

2. Murder, treason, ballgowns and boys. Need I say more? Maybe a little bit. The Season by Sarah MacLean is one of my go to favorites. I bring the hardcover with me on pretty much every vacation. This is where I fell in love with Sarah MacLean and her romances. She’s brilliant! I couldn’t get enough of Pride & Prejudice and was looking for another regency era novel to love. It’s a match made in heaven.

3. And on that note, my favorite Jane Austen novel ever, Pride & Prejudice. “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” And so it begins.

4. Who wouldn’t want to go to a school for spies, disguised as an elite boarding school? Ever since I picked up I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter I’ve been dying to be a Gallagher Girl. I devoured this series. I know it’s technically young adult, but who cares. It’s fun and exciting!

5. Oh, Audrey. What an icon. And what an iconic movie. I loved this behind the scenes look at what really went into making Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and learned a lot about Audrey I didn’t know before. Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman by Sam Wasson was a treat. “But in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, all of a sudden—because it was Audrey who was doing it—living alone, going out, looking fabulous and getting a little drunk didn’t look so bad anymore.”

6. If You Have to Cry Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone was one of those books that I just happened to find on a trip to the library and I’m so happy I did. Learning about the hardcore woman I was introduced to on The Hills and seeing her softer side and learning about her struggles was so interesting. Highly recommend it.

7. Oh Mindy Kaling, let’s just be best friends already, mmmmkay? Witty and charming is definitely how I would describe this book. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (and Other Concerns) is fantastic. Go pick it up now!

8. Modern day Sense & Sensibility. Jane Austen lovers, check out The Dashwood Sisters Secrets of Love by Rosie Rushton!

9. Another young adult novel, I fell in love with Bloomability by Sharon Creech sometime in elementary or middle school. I think I ordered it or picked it up at a book fair. Oh I loved those. Looking at the bloomability of a situation is definitely something we should all get on board with.

10. Oh my lanta. Duchess Kate. Let’s go to brunch and you can just talk in your fabulous accent and I’ll linger on your every word because you’re living a real life fairy tale and your wedding was a dream. I hope you bring lots of photos and have lots of funny stories about baby George. Reading this story about William and Kate each growing up then meeting each other and falling in love at University, well it’s pretty great. We already know I love love. And I know, not everyone is nearly as obsessed with the royal family as I am, or even likes them. But this is one of the best biographies I’ve read. If you’re a fan of the royal family, or just a fan of two people finding love, pick up William and Kate: A Royal Love Story by Christopher Andersen.

So there it is. Ten of my favorite books. And there are OH SO MANY MORE on the list! Do you have any favorites? I love recommendations :)
