Today’s Tuesday Ten is all about one of my absolute favorite things: BOOKS! I have read hundreds and hundreds, and actually started keeping a list on all the books I’ve read/want to read in fall 2011. I’ve been a bookworm since I was little, library day being my favorite day in elementary school, reading ahead when books were assigned in class. I get giddy and go crazy in bookstores. I spend hours at the library. And bless the Canton Public Library for not limiting the number of books you can check out at once! Without further ado… Ten of my favorite books! (And FYI, no rhyme or reason or genre specifically, just ten I would read over and over again, and most of them I have!)
Gah. I’m giddy again just looking at them all!
1. The Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy by Nora Roberts is one of my favorites and I know it’s technically three books, but since it’s a series I’m just counting it as one :) I love love love happy ever afters! The series starts with The Next Always, followed by The Last Boyfriend and ends with The Perfect Hope. Small town romances. Pittah-pattah (that’s my heart beating with happiness)
2. Murder, treason, ballgowns and boys. Need I say more? Maybe a little bit. The Season by Sarah MacLean is one of my go to favorites. I bring the hardcover with me on pretty much every vacation. This is where I fell in love with Sarah MacLean and her romances. She’s brilliant! I couldn’t get enough of Pride & Prejudice and was looking for another regency era novel to love. It’s a match made in heaven.
3. And on that note, my favorite Jane Austen novel ever, Pride & Prejudice. “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” And so it begins.
4. Who wouldn’t want to go to a school for spies, disguised as an elite boarding school? Ever since I picked up I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter I’ve been dying to be a Gallagher Girl. I devoured this series. I know it’s technically young adult, but who cares. It’s fun and exciting!
5. Oh, Audrey. What an icon. And what an iconic movie. I loved this behind the scenes look at what really went into making Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and learned a lot about Audrey I didn’t know before. Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman by Sam Wasson was a treat. “But in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, all of a sudden—because it was Audrey who was doing it—living alone, going out, looking fabulous and getting a little drunk didn’t look so bad anymore.”
6. If You Have to Cry Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone was one of those books that I just happened to find on a trip to the library and I’m so happy I did. Learning about the hardcore woman I was introduced to on The Hills and seeing her softer side and learning about her struggles was so interesting. Highly recommend it.
7. Oh Mindy Kaling, let’s just be best friends already, mmmmkay? Witty and charming is definitely how I would describe this book. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (and Other Concerns) is fantastic. Go pick it up now!
8. Modern day Sense & Sensibility. Jane Austen lovers, check out The Dashwood Sisters Secrets of Love by Rosie Rushton!
9. Another young adult novel, I fell in love with Bloomability by Sharon Creech sometime in elementary or middle school. I think I ordered it or picked it up at a book fair. Oh I loved those. Looking at the bloomability of a situation is definitely something we should all get on board with.
10. Oh my lanta. Duchess Kate. Let’s go to brunch and you can just talk in your fabulous accent and I’ll linger on your every word because you’re living a real life fairy tale and your wedding was a dream. I hope you bring lots of photos and have lots of funny stories about baby George. Reading this story about William and Kate each growing up then meeting each other and falling in love at University, well it’s pretty great. We already know I love love. And I know, not everyone is nearly as obsessed with the royal family as I am, or even likes them. But this is one of the best biographies I’ve read. If you’re a fan of the royal family, or just a fan of two people finding love, pick up William and Kate: A Royal Love Story by Christopher Andersen.
